CHARACTER
MAIN CHARACTER
ANNA
Anna works as a chemist in the Amos Cosmetics factory in New Jersey. Her job is to design new perfumes. Anna is single and lives with her mother. Her mother and Aunt Mimi are worried she is not getting married. Anna is very aware of what goes on around her and quite a discerning character. She knows that David Amos is not possibly in love with her nor is the waiter at the restaurant. She recognizes that it is the result of the powerful perfume she has created.
MINOR CHARACTERS
DAVID AMOS
An important minor character is David Amos. He is the owner of Amos Cosmetics. David Amos is a dark, handsome and fashionable gentleman who is often seen with beautiful women. He appears polite but he actually does not think much of his workers.
AUNT MIMI
Aunt Mimi, is pleasant but she also likes to mind other people's business. She is constantly trying to find a suitable partner for her niece. She gives some fruitcake to Anna.
SABINA
A beautiful young model who is David Amos' girlfriend. She looks down on Anna and is furious when David professes his love for an ordinary and plain-looking girl like Anna. David and her offer compensation to Anna in the form of money to forget the whole incident at the French Restaurant.

ARMSTRONG
He is the pizza delivery boy. He provides the perfect contrast to David Amos. Armstrong, through effort and determination, grows from a mere pizza delivery man to become the owner of the pizza company. He wants to make a success of himself before he declares his love for Anna.
ANNA'S MOTHER
Anna's mother is naturally anxious that her daughter is still single. Right from the beginning, she believes that Armstrong, the pizza delivery man, would make a good husband for Anna. Thus turns out to be right, at the end.
WAITER
He works in a French Restaurant. He adds humor and comedy to the story by the way he behaves towards Anna when under the spell of the fruitcake perfume.

She used to sell fruitcake in the market. Nobody knows much about her except for Aunt Mimi. She had seven husbands who ate her magical fruitcakes. She seemed to have been able to read people's mind and had offered the cake to Aunt Mimi for her niece. She dies early in the story.

Its a story about Anna, a chemist who works in a cosmetic company in USA. She discovers something amazing when she tries putting up a piece of her favourite fruit cake into her chemical mixture to create a new kind of perfume. Trying out her new invention, she sprays the perfume on her that brings rewards her attention from men. One of them is her boss, Mr.Amos who then invites her for dinner.
However, something strange happens that night, Mr. Amos behaves totally different. So, Anna wonders the reason that brings her to the ladies. She uses the other perfume to the dinner, Intrigue which could be the reason. She is going to spray some more perfume, but Intrigue is not anywhere in her bag, instead the fruitcake perfume is there. She sprays some fruitcake perfume, and things awkwardly 'shines' to her. Even the waiter takes a shot on her. She returns to the table but a phone call is waiting for her. Thus, she goes get the phone call.
Returning to the table, Anna finds that Mr. Amos is now joined by his girlfriend, Sabina the model. Surprisingly, Mr. Amos tells his current girlfriend that he is in love with Anna. Upon all this, Anna has already know that all those awkward and strange behaviors come from that perfume effect. They fight and Anna is forced to walk out of the scene and she returns home by taxi.
Anna misses the work on the next day and finds out the ingredients in the fruitcake from Aunt Mimi. Anna learns that there is a secret ingredient in the fruitcake from Aunt Mimi who buys the cake from an old lady. Sadly, as Anna tries to find the old lady, she learns that the old lady has already died.
After a two days off, Anna returns to office to find Mr. Amos's note asking her to see him. As she enters Mr. Amos's office, she find him with Sabina. Mr. Amos apologizes to Anna and explains that he has no idea what could he behave such a way the other days. Sabina cynically says to Anna that what Mr. Amos wants to say is that he himself does not understand why he could get attracted to Anna. Anna feels insulted. She takes the fruitcake perfume and pours in on Sabina. She quits job.
She finds another job with the Intrigue company. Armstrong, the pizza delivery man, one day comes to visit Anna. He brings pizza and flowers. He confesses to Anna that he falls in love with Anna at the first sight. Now, as he owns a pizza company, he asks Anna for a date.

1. We should not be greedy.
When Anna realizes that she has made a wonderful accidental discovery of the fruitcake perfume, she tries to make fortune out of it. She never tells Aunt Mimi on the effect of the fruitcake perfume. However, when she tries to make more perfume by discovering the source of the fruitcake, she learns that the old lady whom makes the fruitcake has passed away. Anna gets stunned when she knows the old lady had seven husband during her lifetime.
2. We should not judge a book by its cover.
Anna has no interest in Armstrong as he is only a pizza delivery man and furthermore, not charming enough in Anna's eye. But, things change as Anna learns a lot from the incident with Mr. Amos and Sabina, his girlfriend, as well as she learns that Armstrong now has proven success in his life.
3. We should not be overwhelmed by power, instead we should behave rationally.
The fruitcake perfume gives power of attraction to Anna. Using that, she can easily make Mr. Amos falls in love with her, or any other rich man. However, Anna does not use that 'power', instead, she rationally tells Mr. Amos that the reason he behaves differently to Anna is the result of the perfume effects.

1. Power vs. Integrity
The Fruitcake perfume which Anna creates accidentally has given her power of attraction. When she uses the perfume on herself, Mr. Amos and other men get attracted to her easily. However, the feelings do not last long. Knowing her superiority, Anna however does not take advantage of her power to flirt with Mr. Amos, neither she plans to steal away Mr. Amos from his current girlfriend Sabina although Anna knows Sabina is not a humble person. In fact, she shows integrity in her action when she confesses to Mr. Amos that she knows the reason of Mr. Amos to have such flirty feeling on her.
2. Differences in lifestyle between the high economic status and middle class economic status
The lifestyle of Mr. Amos and his girlfriend Sabina is totally different from Anna's as they belong to different social class group. Anna has the dream to have such lifestyle, but then in the end, Anna leaves the chaos in Mr. Amos perfume factory and chooses to have a quite humble life with Armstrong, the pizza delivery man.
3. True love vs. Superficial love
Mr. Amos gets attracted to Anna for only a short while and it is due to the physical appearance of Anna (her fragrance). This is called superficial love. It cannot beat the love of Mr. Amos with Sabina. On the other hand, as for Anna, her dream love turns to be superficial especially when it comes with the lifestyle which she cannot fit in and controversy exists in such a life. Her true love has always been around here with Armstrong. True love makes her happy, in total because she manages to get herself love that worths herlife.
